Call For People To Join The Steering Committee

Hi guys its my second post today, two posts all at one go since the cows came home and got milked dry! K but I'm excited you see. Right, so yeh I guess all if not many of you have heard of the closure of YW and the announcement that there's a planning of the second service going on? Ya'll know right, did you'll listen to the announcements during the last YW last week?! =)

Well, so actually I'm writing this and asking if any of you would like to join the 'Steering Committee' a.k.a the 'Planning Comm for the 2nd Service'. K let me explain to the best of what I can about the Steering Comm. Its a committee that has Pastor Quek guiding us, and of course God, guiding us also in the planning for this 2nd service. In this comm, there're people of all ages working together, oldest being Pastor Quek and the young punks being us youths. So, yeah there are also the YAM people like Zhi Wen, Victor and many more, and there're adults too. So we're all working together with a common goal, which is to come up with a solid and good 2nd service that will help us to worship God better and cater to the needs of both youths and adults at the same time. Right now, it isn't a matter of us being short on man power but all help would be welcomed. Charles, Julia, Sarah Tan and I are currently in it. Do talk to us if you wanna know more! Please =)

Zion Youth Fellowship Outing: Visit to The Doulos

Hi guys, its been a while, a really, really long while! Hi anyway! Well wonder if any of you still come to this blog, or bother to remember its existance at all heh. Anyway the whole ZYF (combined) is gonna visit the The Doulos. Here's the 'Knowing-What-The-Doulos-Guide-For-Dummies-101' :

Doulos was purchased in 1977 by Gute Bücher für Alle e.V. (Good Books for All), a private, non-profit, charitable organisation registered in Germany.

Over 18 million visitors have been welcomed on board for tours, programmes and visits to the floating book fair. With stops in over 500 ports of call, this unique ship has visited more than 100 countries in including Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and many island nations.

Doulos is recognised in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's oldest active ocean-going passenger ship.

Zion Youth Fellowship Outreach 2006: Success!

Hello everyone, danny here. Okay the outreach was a success! Many new comers went for it, probably almost 20, praise God =) Must follow Alicia's examples and bring your friends =O Anyway, here's a letter from Rachael Liew on behalf of the Outreach Comm:

dear all, thanks for being a part of and supporting the committee in so many ways for ZYF Outreach 2006. truly, the Lord has been with us every step of the way, and we trust and pray that He will continue to work after the event has passed. please do continue to pray for the follow-up that has already started; just as we must not let go of this opportunity to get involved in the lives of the non-believing newcomers and invite them to find a home with God's family at zion, so must we also not relax when it comes to interceding for these lost souls. in this sense, the follow-up is not just about the aunties and uncles who have agreed to speak with the newcomers, and neither is it just about rachel ng who is the outreach follow-up i/c and other people who will be working to make sure the newcomers are introduced to and integrated into yf. instead, let's carry out this follow-up as a whole church, taking each newcomer seriously and sincerely, in prayer, word and deed. do pray especially for the follow-up people i have mentioned above as well. the 16th sept event may be over, but the out-reach continues! may God grant us wisdom and perseverance to carry on the work. further information and details of the outreach event itself will be revealed in time to come, so sit tight for that. love, rachel liew on behalf of ZYF Outreach Committee 2006

Zion Youth Fellowship Outreach 2006: Live Choices

IS THIS ALL YOU SEE? CAN YOU SPOT THE CROSS?

Hi all,

It's outreach time(hrm every day is outreach time actually)!

For those of you who may not know what "outreach" is, for ZYF it is
typically a one-day event, usually a YF saturday, where YFers invite
their non-Christian friends along to a programme designed to cater to
non-Christians. The good news about Jesus is presented, and friends
are invited to put their trust in Him for the rest of their lives, in
the process, people also usually have a good time and enjoy great
food!

ZYF outreach events have taken on many forms in previous years, eg
"Surrender - The Musical", Gospel Cafe, Sports Outreach, a debate
about Christianity etc. ask your friendly older YFer for details about
past-year outreaches if you're interested!

This year, it's about LIFE's CHOICES; it's about decisions and their
consequences. More details to come in the upcoming issue of
Y-Communication. (vitally, it is on 16 Sept, Saturday, 3-7pm, at
Gardens church. dinner will be provided. the food promises to be
good.)

Attached are the front and back of the publicity cards for the
outreach event. Do feel free to download the images and print them
out, front and back, on a single piece of thick paper, so that you can
give them away to friends. You can also approach the committee
members(below) for ready-printed cards.

Pray and think about who to ask to come to Outreach; this event is
precisely planned for these very friends who need to know about the
good news of Jesus.

Pray also for the Outreach committee: Graham, Gillian, Rachel Ng,
Terence, Sam Tan, and myself(and unofficially but very importantly,
Uncle Reg, Serene, Linus and Kenji). Pray for our own hearts to be
right with and close to the Lord, that He may do the reaching out
through us and this service we do for Him.

Pray for yourselves, for you are His instruments, and He tells the
world through you. let Him do so!

Alright hello again guys, above is the letter that Rachael sent to all the yf-ers. Dont' know if many people still come here for updates because updates are so rare, sorry, hope many of you can get a chance to read this, so I'm posting it as early as possible before outreach. Okay so it is outreach time and I hope you'll can understand and know what outreach is through the email and details above.

Well, to be honest, I really hope those of you in our YDs that do not go for YF will take this chance of the outreach to go to YF for the first time and join us in getting to know God through fellowship with fellow Christians plus growing up together spiritually. In fact, its pretty clear right, yeh that they're so many of these YFers putting their lives down for God, the YF committee, even the outreach committee. So why don't you'll just give it a try, come down to YF on the Saturday, 16th September at Zion Serangoon (if you're not sure, you can contact any of us, me or anyone or just call the committee members, their details shown above on the pictures.) So yeh we urge you to come down and bring your friends too, really hope to see many new faces, and if you'll didn't know, all if not most of us here from your YDs who go to YF really hope to see those of you who don't go to YF, going for YF in the near future. Its not just a thing we go to, its a family of God! =) So please yeh, be encouraged to go dudes. Hope to see you'll really.

And for any of you interested, you'll can pray for them, the outreach committee and just to pray for our fellow YD-ers to join us at YF and grow with us in the big family of God =) And also not to forget, to pray for us to stay strong in God daily and do our QT regularly k, yeh c'mon guys lets allow God to use us as the light in the dark and the city on a hill! hello!apparently joey tay doesnt want to blog so i shall have to do this for her! ((: haha okay the recent yd outing:
basically the sec2 guys and girls as well as the sec3 guys and girls went for it!woohoo.claps for the sec2 girls who absent the last time ((: haha!aniwae yupp we all went to the twin coffeeshop except for the sec3 guys.dunno where they disappeared to.after lunch,we went back to church for worship!junipher and i played guitar,joey and sarah piano and charles led ((: after worship we palyed polarbear.gosh i was stuck between 2 polar bears!!haha wad luck huh.and apparently people refused to listen to my reasoning!and instead "killed" me.so much for my analytical skills!HAHA and well so the polar bears were joey zhiwen peter and chongmian.and the senseis were charles and wen.quite fun larh ((:

[ joey here : NOT FAIR! you people are NOT supposed to kick me out so fast! i was voted out by the second round and i couldnt play anymore. how sad. evil people! :( ]

aniwae after that,we played double whacko.and jamine and edmund were the only partners who didnt change at all!hai then i tried to sabo them also cannot ): pro! ((: haha.and they were trying to sabo the yd teachers...tsktsk.and well after that was the money game.the guys did forfeit ((: ohya for the double whacko game,there was forfeit too ((: sharing next!!haha.we broke up into smaller groups(at least 1 sec2guy,1 sec2 girl,1 sec3 guy,1 sec3 girl...) and shared with our group members one high point and one low point on our life this past few months.it was quite good in a sense that we can share with each other and get to know each other better as well.it was a really great suggestion by uncle bobby ((: my group was spontaneous too!we managed to really share with each other and even managed to move on to other topics to talk about! :x haha.well and then we went to the carpark to play captain's ball.so hot okay!gosh run in the hot sun.everybody was sweating profusely!(except those who were slacking) ((: hahaha.okay half complete ):

eh well, there isnt much else to say i guess. some of us went to play frisbee with the yf-ers nearby. it was fun! to the rest of you who didnt go, GO!! it was a great experience for all of us yeah? :) so yup! thanks to all who came, and we hope that you guys all enjoyed the short worship, games and even the sharing time! :D do come! there'll be more combined yd outings! :) but we'll probably do some different stuff for a change :) so see you guys soon!

our combined yd outing has been changed from this saturday to sunday instead! :D and this time, the sec 2 girls will also be involved! we'll meet straight after service at the fellowship hall! see you guys there.. it'll be fun! so COME OKAY! :D pls let your yd teachers know whether you can make it or not :)

try to change to shorts if possible.. so it'll be easier to play games :D shoes arent compulsory! and btw, things are not properly planned YET. its tentative! we'll be back for more updates :D

Okay hi again guys. Lol Joey, Alicia and Charles shall now be known as JAC. Easier to type. Okay JAC so hyper lol you all talk about YW like nobody goes! Okayder thats good, cause you're excited =)

Moving on, okay here's my piece on the YD Outing. Not too long right? It's a quote afterall oh well. Here goes. YD Outing was God bringing Christian boys, girls, woman and men together through fellowship. I think a bonding of members in a church starts with small gatherings as such to bring us together. Maybe its not easy to bond with Christ coming into the picture in everything we do and say but at least a start is a start. Lol okay thats all, so weird.

Okay, next up is YF FAMILY DAY. ALL COME! So exciting. Can you all sense the excitingness, the exhilerating adrenaline rush, the everflowing eagerness? Okay point is, its a good chance for all of you [us] who hasn't come for YF before to come and bond with the rest since its sort of a family/fellowshipping day. Well we talk so much about fellowship that it seems to lose its meaning. But then, in a church I guess its really important for fellowshipping to take place. Only then will the newcomers feel welcomed! =) Okay so those who are new, please don't hesitate to go. Can take this as a stepping stone to join YF too! Trust me, YF is life changing. Those who are yfers already bring dad, mom and the younger kids along so that everyone knows whats going on and the little ones can look forward to joining YF next time!

HELLO !

its Joey, Alicia and Charles speaking! :D here are our thoughts on the yf retreat!

JOEY:
one thing that stood out most for me was what we learnt on the last day in Chapter 6 of Ephesians.. "Honour your father and your mother". those who went for retreat would have known that my parents didnt allow me to stay over, and so.. to be honest, i found it really hard to honour them at that point of time. but after BS on thursday, i came to realise how important it is to obey our parents, even though sometimes they may make unreasonable demands. (haha. im not saying that my parents were unreasonable) it gets hard, definitely, but we can be comforted in knowing that this commandment comes with a promise - that we will live a long life on earth if we honour them :) so lets all try to be good testimonies for Him at home and honour our parents okay? :D this is what the Bible instructs us to do so lets try out very best to do it with joy!
another thing my group discussed was about service. we were being rather random and it had nothing to do with Ephesians but i felt that it was a really good discussion. we talked about our spiritual blessings.. how would we really know which area God would like us to serve in? and i think very often, many of us wish to serve in a particular area just because it seems so "cool" .. but is that what God wants? will He be pleased with that attitude? when it comes to service, i think we should all pray very hard and ask for God to guide us, instead of just plunging into things straight away. and most importantly, we MUST MUST have the right motive .. which is to serve God and to glorify Him!
overall, i really enjoyed this retreat.. getting to know more people and the great fellowship we had together! even study time was good. (but i didnt study much LOL!) it was an extremely refreshing time for me! :) and i really thank God for giving me this opportunity to get to know Him more..

ALICIA:
altho i didnt go for much of retreat, i have to say that retreat was very fun, even for the short duration i've been in there. however, retreat was not only fun, but refreshing and enjoyable. especially on the short section of Revelations, it explained many things, and also kindled an interest on it. Seriously, Revelations is very interesting and rather spooky. :/ but yes, it is VERY nice and i encourage all of you to read it ! and also, games ! games were fun, esp wet games. oh, and i would like to thank my groupmates who splash water on me, it wasnt cold, not at all lastly, i would like to encourage others to go for other retreats ! it would be something you would not regret.

CHARLES:
retreat was a wonderful time for spiritual refreshment, time to come closer to God, without the worldy troubles of work and what not. worship sessions were held a few times a day, and this was really great, being able to sign of God's greatness and love for us, being constantly reminded about it.
the bible study sessions were great, with the help of wonderful facilitators of the 87' girls. Joyce, Mabel, Sarah and *who?*. the book of ephesians was covered, mainly how the gospel was then 'available' to the Jews, as well as the Gentiles. how we were originally dead in sin and were not spiritually reborn with God's grace. we were able to draw much application from the text with the bible study techniques we were taught, be it honoring our parents, not gossiping etc.
during a time of self discovery during retreat, i am sure each and everyone of us who attended retreat took home a lesson or two. for me, i learnt the importance of faith. Christianity is a religion based on faith, based on the belief of an immaterial God, a God so close to us yet out of reach. I am a person who tends to rationalise. In the course of trying to learn more about God, many questions arise, and i try to rationalise them. this would be considered as a downfall, and i am sure that some fellow Christians too struggle with this problem. During a time set aside for prayer, and with aid from a spiritually more mature Chrisitan, i discovered that there is no need to think so much, as imperfect beings, we will never be able to comprehend many things in the spiritual realm. we should just take a leap of faith, believing that our Lord God is sitting on His throne, looking over us. we will never be able to comprehend God's plan, and there is good reason why. the Bible speaks of His work, His grace, His love, what more do we need?

on to yf yesterday! we had praise and worship followed by message on Philippians. Where Paul was captured and held in chains [ put in jail ]. Hence comes the question, if Paul is such a good preacher and a servant of Christ, why would God let him be put in jail ? But that is just such a small part of the picture, as Paul says in Philippians 4:12-13 "But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel, so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ." Even though Paul was put in chains, he was still living a Godly life and being a living testimony for the Lord. And he inspired many to be bold about the gospel of Christ and to speak without fear. And that would answer the question :D Paul was put in jail to inspire people to and for Christ.

Notice how the words : 'I broke a nail' sounds so bimbotic. but in this case, alicia seriously broke it.. in half. :/ it happened like this : it was a nice bright and sunny day, after worship. the yfers went to use the carpark lots to play captains ball and alicia invited her dearest sprinter friend to church for the first time she liked yf ( so all you people PLEASE come ) but she said she didnt fit in, altho everyone was like trying to pass her the ball so she could play. she didnt want to catch it, so the evil defenders asked alicia to get off the chair to play with her friend, which alicia unwillingly did. so alicia ran to catch a ball, and being her, she slipped in a puddle and kicked the no-parking sign resulting to a broken toe nail which wouldnt stop bleeding, and that is alicia's very sad story (x

and joey came with shoulder length hair to church, which made a really cute pony tail ! :)while charles and danny didnt notice .. maybe its because they're guys(x .. cough cough but nevermind, many people says she looks like her sister but some says she looks the same. alicia thinks joey has cute hair now, which joey glady said that she was always cute to begin with. oh joey joey.HOWEVER, despite charles not noticing joey's hair, and being a guy. he isnt :D welcome to the sisterhood charlseypoopoo ! (x .. okay, since the sisterhood is exclusive .. join the female-hood :D

so yes, after charles accepts the fact that he is not a normal guy .. if he is one :D all of us are proud to say that charles has learnt a new song ! taught by our dearest Joey ! the one and only piano prodigy. :D which made charles super happy, cos now he has a song to aplay ! its entitled "a common love"

For those who have never attended youth worship for whatever reason, please do! as the name suggests, youth worship is a time for youths to gather and worship God. youth worship is on the 2nd and 4th week of every month. so yah, come!

charles missed the first part of youth worship today cause he was late :S having coffee you see. anyway, he slipped in after the doxology and proceeded to sing a medley of songs. followed by scripture reading and message.

today's speaker was Mr Thia Lee Yong. he spoke on "the power of the tongue - your words matter". the scripture by which the message was based on was James 3:1-12. the message touched on a few issues, mainly the power [of our tongue] to influence and direct, the power [of our tongue] to destroy, and the pontential for good. in a nutshell, the message spoke of us [Christians] having to bridle and watch our tongue as the tongue has no boundaries. the same tongue that we [chrisitans] use to sing praise and glorify God is the same tongue that we use to gossip, slander and curse. instead of using our tongue for such unrighteous purposes, we should use the very same tongue to fulfill the great commission, to spread the gospel and evangalise, bringing others to know Christ.

we then proceeded to a time of singing, prayer, offering and announcements before youth worship was officially over. we were privileged to have one new comer today, named Ting if i am not wrong. a big HELLO to you! Ting was brought by Rachel if i am not wrong. fellow youth fellowship-ers should try to invite their friends too! dont be discouraged if your friends do not comply. just try and help the body of christ grow!

haha. so i guess you all can tell how much the three of us have gained from yf.. not only the fun but also the fellowship and so much more about God! :D so we sincerely hope that you guys will all make an effort to come for yf! every saturday, 4pm, at room 209!

Ok I am still young at heart ok, in spite of 26 long years of my life. Bobby is older than us alright? See? I think he jumps higher and faster than so many of the youths! Hahaha.

Thanks for celebrating my birthday, really didn't expect it. So proud of our girls for organising everything and for turning up. :D

Let us press on to know the Lord, and continue to do good for His name's sake. The world doesn't read the bible, but they read you and me.

End of Retreat/ Lunch on Sunday

Hi guys, retreat just ended yesterday. Retreat was great and stuff, shan't elaborate too much. But just something to note, I know many of you guys don't go to YF at all. I think we should all participate in stuff like YF Retreats and YF Camps or something. We can take it as a platform to enter the YF easier-ly. Okay maybe some of you have personal reasons and stuff, but I think you'll should go cause for me I went to YF only cause I had YF Camp 2005 as a stepping stone. And I think many of us are missing the point of fellowship in our Christian lives and I think thats where YF comes into the picture. I'm not sure how you'll might interpret this but YF helped in my spiritual growth and maybe even learning how to speak up and initiate etc. Don't know, but its encourage-able to come for YF. Cause YF is quite =Ownage! =D (*Saturday 10 June: YF combined with garderns and YAM, Room 2-09, 16:00 hours)

Anyway, thinking of a Sec 3 lunch, not thinking but just saying. After church, just go fellowship hall to fellowship with the fellowshippers then we can go lunch together. Non-sec 3s also can go, so don't mind the name 'sec 3 lunch' =Ownage. okay bye bye siblings.

Well...we can have the next YD outing organized during this June holidays again! Haha but think all the YD teachers would agree with me that it is the youths' turn to make "things" happen this time round *wink*

Ok before I continue, I shall say that I am "hacking" into this blog and posting my entry *Muahahaha* Anyway it needs more entries! So people, start blogging and leave your thoughts in here!

As I shared with the guys during YD class this Sun morning (04 June), the outing was a rewarding time for me.
1) Allowed me to see the different sides of both the youths and the teachers (Uncle Bobby can really "chiong" on the "courts"!). It was good to see that all inhibitions were thrown out of the window and everyone just mingled together
2) was happy that the youths enjoyed this whole experience, 'cos the teachers were also not very sure what to expect out of this outing...haha cos we are "old" and may have organized activities which are not "cool" (but like what Danny said, the youths made it "cool" huh ;p)
3) was encouraged that the youths want more of such fellowship opportunities
4) and made me realized that the Sec 3 girls are super super ONZ man!

It's really good to see our Zion youths so "ONz" for God, and keep up the effort!

Let's all do more for God!!!

Zion Youth Discipleship Outing / Cindy's Birthday

Today we had the first combined YD outing/gathering. Probably not really an outing, considering we were gathered in church rather than elsewhere besides the fact that we were confined in the cosy indoors due to the super heavy rain. After a long but good message and YW, the groups (Zhiwen and Chong Mian's YD Sec 2 boys, Patrick and Uncle Bobby's YD Sec 3 boys, Cindy and Debbie's YD Sec 3 girls) went for lunch and stuff separately.

Met back in the fellowship hall and moved on to the BGST thing room to have our 'outing'! Not to forget, the lock of the clubhouse was somewhat spoilt-ed when we had to go in to take stuff, sincerely don't know who's fault you know =D

Had some pretty fun games, I guessed, we made the games really fun. It wouldn't be that fun if it was played with anyone else anywhere else haha. Icebreakers were made 'cool'. Not as in ICE - COOL sense -.= Then had some other games, in fact all the games were good. I guess I can confidently say we all know each other better now at least by name =) For a start I guess interaction on a first YD outing would be better than a sports fest or something. That can come next time anytime.

Celebrated Cindy's birthday too. Happy Birthday Cindy! That's 26 years of life man, about 24 more years to 50! Pray that Cindy will continue to serve God faithfully through God's grace alone =)

Ended with a Captain's Ball game in the carpark when we were abruptly disturbed by incoming cars so the game ended. Wet day, cold day, but great day, thank God for YD, thank God for everything.
